Greg Kero

As a native of Vancouver, Greg Kero has lived in the Lower Mainland of British Columbia for most of his life. His life-long interest in painting stems from his childhood in the 1960s, when he was tutored in various artistic techniques by his parents, who were graduates of the Vancouver School of Art. As a result of Kero’s post-secondary training in the field of photo-journalism in the mid-1980s, Kero moved to Toronto, where he worked as the assistant editor of Photo Life magazine. While travelling to Toronto, he was struck by the vastness of the land, intrigued by the artistic possibilities of recording what he had seen. Subsequently, at Photo Life, Kero soon gained an enhanced appreciation of the characteristics of light and the aesthetics of its effects on subjects he felt drawn to record. Until that point, Kero had been painting intermittently throughout his life, but it was his daily exposure to photographic art while at Photo Life – together with the inspiration provided him by his move to Eastern-Central Canada – that inspired him to devote more of his time to painting. Following further travels throughout Canada, Europe and the Caribbean, in 1994 Kero returned to Vancouver, where he began to paint full-time, resulting in a series of exhibitions of his work and a continuation of his artistic training through courses offered by the Federation of Canadian Artists.
