Call for Contemporary Dancers: Savage Society

Savage Society is looking for contemporary dancers for an upcoming two week workshop of Tai Grauman’s new play in development You used to call me Marie…

In this 2 week workshop, we will be exploring how we can create horses by using an ensemble of 6 contemporary dancers.

Synopsis: ” You Used to Call me Marie…” follows two souls in eight different Metis love stories at eight distinct points in time. Beginning in creation and ending in the present, we watch Iskwewo and Napew before and after the creation of Treaty 6. We watch the emergence of the Metis communities across the plains and the robust colonization that arises from the fur trade alongside the loss of knowledge that happens over time. ” You used to call me Marie …” shares the love, the loss and the fight of Treaty 6’s Metis women. Through alternate forms of theatrical structure, five different languages, puppetry, jigging and contemporary dance, this piece shares timeless stories of the survival of Metis peoples across Treaty 6.
