Music By The River set to return to Pier Park in July

June 15, 2017

New Westminster, BC – The Arts Council of New Westminster is thrilled to be partnering with Alex Jopson (of City to Suburb Real Estate Group) and the City of New Westminster to bring back the Music By The River concert series and arts festival to the award-winning Westminster Pier Park on Thursday nights on July 6, 13, 20 & 27, 2017 from 5-8pm.

This all-ages free experience will be the first of it’s kind with a new additional announcement for this year’s festivities. The Arts Council of New Westminster and City to Suburb Real Estate Group are thrilled to fill Westminster Pier Park with a wide variety of the arts, including live musical performance, two DJ stages, busking performances, artisan vendors, live painting, ribbon dancing, and more. Spend sunny summer evenings at Pier Park enjoying the arts in a scenic setting next to the Fraser River.

NEW this year: The Arts Council of New Westminster is partnering with the City of New Westminster and will be serving Steel and Oak Brewing Co along with Pacific Breeze wine at the Eats at the Pier concession. The entire park will be one massive site-licensed area allowing you to take your drink anywhere within the park. Bring your picnic dinner down to Pier Park and enjoy a drink as you listen to the tunes from Royal City Sound DJ program. Enjoy every aspect of this beautiful park, whether it be the beach volleyball courts, hammocks, grass fields, basketball courts, or breathe taking views of the Fraser River. Be sure to take your drink all the way down to take a selfie with Wow Westminster public art, New Westminster’s Giant W. Make sure to plan your trip to the event, as the park is within a short walk from Columbia and New Westminster Skytrain Stations.

SPECIAL FEATURE: On July 13, the Arts Council of New Westminster is proud to present a live performance by Vancouver electronic band I M U R.  I M U R (I am you are), is a live electronic act with a hybrid sound influenced by 90’s hip-hop/r&b, electronic, experimental, and soul. The band consists of producer Mikey J Blige on live beat composition and electric guitar, singer-songwriter Jenny Lea on keys, vocals, and looping, and producer/multi-instrumentalist Amine Bouzaher on electric violin and bass. Their debut EP “Slow Dive” (released Aug. 2015), garnered much acclaim from the Vancouver underground scene, and recently landed them #5 in Spotify’s Global Viral Top 50 charts.

With the Arts Council of New Westminster’s commitment to promoting the arts within the community, Music By The River captures the art of live performance for community pleasure while offering local musicians the opportunity to display their talent. Music By The River is made possible by support from the City of New Westminster, Government of Canada, City to Suburb Real Estate Group, Creative BC and the BC Arts Council.
