Planning an Arts Centre
The Arts Council, together with the City,
has been working towards an integrated arts centre for a long
time.
The
Arts and Culture Policy
In 1996 a large representative group from arts and cultural
organizations, business and professional communities
participated in a Policy Planning Workshop. From this a
smaller task force was formed to develop and refine the Arts
and Culture Policy for the City of New Westminster.

The Policy is now ten years old! Do you
think as a city we have made progress? Do you think the
Policy is still valid? Click here

Going Forward
We believe that looking the options that have already been
explored would be helpful for developing new strategies. Here
are some of the options that have been looked at:
The Requirement Specification for an
Integrated Arts Centre that was developed for these projects
is available for viewing.

get to the art of the matter", in the Record.
The City has applied for an Arts Now
Creative Communities grant to develop an Arts Strategy (see
Council Minutes). The City will spend $40,000 to develop
the strategy (see
report in The Record)
Currently the City is looking at
establishing an Arts Strategy Task Force to guide the
Arts Strategy planning process (see
Parks and Recreation report).
